They document all security events, maintenance requests, and irregular activities in computer-aided dispatch (CAD) or incident management software to maintain a clear audit trail. During emergencies, they serve as the primary point of contact for field security officers, fire services, and law enforcement, providing live intelligence and managing evacuation procedures to protect on-site occupants.

Key responsibilities

• Manage multi-monitor surveillance arrays using VMS platforms to proactively detect perimeter breaches or unauthorized access to restricted zones.
• Execute rapid incident response protocols for fire alarms, medical emergencies, or security breaches by dispatching field units via radio communications.
• Maintain detailed digital logs of daily security activities and incident reports within specialized software to ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
• Coordinate with law enforcement agencies and emergency responders by providing real-time visual evidence and clear communication during high-pressure crises.
• Oversee electronic access control databases to manage employee badging, visitor credentials, and temporary site permissions for contractors and vendors.
• Conduct virtual 'rounds' via pan-tilt-zoom cameras to identify hazards, lighting failures, or physical damage to facility infrastructure and property.
• Monitor life-safety systems and environmental sensors to provide early warning of potential hazards that could compromise site operations or safety.
• Provide expert testimony or evidence retrieval by exporting secure video footage for internal investigations, HR inquiries, or legal proceedings.

Requirements and skills

• Proven experience operating large-scale video management software (VMS) and integrated security command center platforms.
• Proficiency in managing electronic access control systems and interpreting automated alarm notifications from hardware sensors.
• Strong technical capability in radio communication protocols, multi-line telephone systems, and digital incident reporting software.
• Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) or CPR/AED, with preference for state-issued security guard or private investigator licenses.
• Demonstrated ability to maintain high levels of concentration during long shifts in a sedentary but mentally demanding command center environment.
